Some Adventures Happen one Day at a Time

While the COVID-19 pandemic has certainly changed all of our plans for 2020, my dream of thru-hiking the AT in sections is still going strong! The best part of my week is when I head out for my AT section hike. For the past several months, I have spent most every Saturday section-hiking or trail-running a section of the AT. Sometimes I hike alone, sometimes friends (like my friend Melissa, above) join me for my weekly adventure! It requires a different set of logistical planning- finding the trail head every week, making sure I get on at the same place I got off, but through this method I have made it through my first 100 miles of the Pennsylvania section of the AT!

Adapting Goals…

Due to the COVID-19 virus, I have found it necessary to come off the Appalachian Trail and return home until further notice. As heartbreaking as this is, I feel it is our social and moral obligation to do our part in halting the spread of the virus. I have therefore changed the goal from thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail in a single year to section-hiking the entirely of the Appalachian Trail with no timeline. I will continue to post updates of my section hikes here.

In better news, I was recently approved to run the New York City Marathon on behalf of city meals on wheels. This organization provides meals to homebound elderly in New York City, and I can’t think of a better time for such an important cause. If anyone would like to donate, please see the link below:
